"The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery"  Mark Van Doren

About Me:

I was born in Pennsylvania but raised in Stow, Ohio. I am a full time junior at the University of Akron. I am majoring in Early Childhood Education and  obtaining a minor in Child Development. I plan on graduating in Fall of 2012 and becoming a Kindergarten teacher. I have always wanted to become a teacher due to the impacts that my own teachers had on my life. Outside of a school setting, I enjoy spending time with friends, family, scrapbooking, hiking, traveling, and reading  any type of book I can get my hands on!

My Teaching Philosophy:

My teaching philosophy is through a progressive view point, which means my students will be learning through experiences. Progressivism allows for a student-centered classroom and adapts a hands on  learning style. With these types of teaching instructions  the students  will be engaged  in their  own learning. I also believe that every student has  the potential  of  reaching their goals, and I will help guide them through  by providing them with a nurturing environment.  I understand that every child learns differently and at their own pace therefore  I will be modifying lesson plans to everyone's needs.  Throughout the years of teaching, I hope to establish a want to learn attitude  not only in my students academic career, but a lifetime.
